INTERNET DEALS - Music empowered by AIM

Portugal hotels Summary of trial terms

AIM represents independent record companies in the UK - nearly 700 labels (e.g. Beggars Banquet, Warp, V2, XL, Snapper, Gut, Mute, Ministry of Sound and Telstar) and around 26% of the retail market.   AIM promotes the use of its members' music and protects the interests of its members in relation to the recorded music market as a whole. AIM was mandated by its members at its AGM in 2000 and again in 2001 to represent its members in internet deals (including downloads) and for other new technology forms of music distribution (hereafter 'internet deals' for short).

AIM started this service at the request of labels and users alike because there are no alternative collective options. Traditionally PPL has acted as a one-stop licensing point for traditional broadcast and performance. However, PPL does not have a mandate for internet deals (beyond internet simulcast of traditional broadcasts), and in any event, it would not have been able to offer deals for uses which are deemed equivalent to sales, such as downloads. As mentioned above, AIM's mandate now extends to deals for types of core business uses for which the major labels would simply not be able or willing to offer collective licences.

It is the first industry proactive step to meet the immediate requirements of users. It marks a vital difference in the attitude of the independents and a refusal to be competitively disadvantaged by existing structures or lack of them. It is literally "music empowered by AIM" and users have been required to display this in a logo on their sites.

Working together is a very valuable tool for 2 main reasons:

hotels Amsterdama) one-stop shopping reduces administration costs for both labels and users;
b) it is inclusive rather than exclusive - without the service small labels and small users could be locked out of vital new markets because they don't have sufficient resources or bargaining power.

AIM's negotiations will help the UK independent sector and forward thinking users to properly position themselves in the market for the use of music across all new-media platforms with the other benefit of savings in administration.

accommodation in Turin AIM charges administration fees and negotiation/contract delivery fees to users to offset its costs in providing the service. The user will also pay label fees as normal. These deals are being negotiated on behalf of AIM by its sister company RightsRouter.
